80% of sore throats are viral and do not require antibiotics. Only strep throat is treated with antibiotics. However, the inappropriate use of antibiotics is accelerating the phenomenon of antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistance is responsible for an increasing number of deaths and will be one of the leading causes of death in the world by 2050.* To reduce its impact, it is therefore important to identify the pathogen responsible for the disease.
